It sounds like you might want to check out some tutorials on how to use Pro Tools in order route the signal back to your headphones.

The first 20 videos are free to view and you might get what you need in them http://www.vtc.com/products/Avid-Pro-Tools-9-Tutorials.htm

As for the hardware, you can keep messing with it, but it is hard to get stuff like that figured out over forums. You might want to hire a consultant to come out and get you set up or do it over the phone. Here is some contact information for a consultant.

One thing with the 2626 - if you want to plug an instrument straight in, it has to be either channel 1 or 2. Make sure the button on the front is pressed in, so it doesn't feed from the mic preamp.

Something to try is Input monitoring. I think the hotkey is alt-k. If your track is armed (record button), it should play through your main outs.

One more thing :) If all else fails, go into your profire mixer, click the "router" tab, and change analog out 1/2 to "mixer out" . that basically monitors everything coming in, regardless if you're in pro tools or not.

I hope that helped/made sense. It took me a minute to figure out my profire, but the learning curve was worth it.
