You need to give more specific information about your system. Is it Mac or pc? Protools, logic, cubase?

Hip hop rock R&B? Are you trying to use your compressors and limiters? Are you just recording too hot.

Give information about how you are working too. Software synths, keyboards, live?

This will make it easier for us to help you. Ok?

Your beat is not making your tracks clip, YOU are making your tracks clip.

If you're using a beat you already found on the net it's already mastered and if you're trying to put a limiter across it all of course it's going to clip and sound horrible.

The solution to this is gain staging. You need to REDUCE the GAIN on the beat track and mix your vocal TO to the beat....Volume matching basically. You would want the limiter on your vocal track ONLY to match the stereo beat and THEN bounce....You can't master a track that's already been mastered ;).

Reducing the gain is NOT the same as bringing down a fader, you'll want to use the "Trim" plug-in provided by pro tools to accomplish this task. Or any plug-in that gives you the option to change trim levels.

If you're making your OWN beats....Learn to gain stage properly, it will send you leaps and bounds to better sounds. (Ah! A rhyme!)
