We're all influenced by someone in particular for whatever reason, so who has been your spark of inspiration to mix and record?

Mine would be Fredrik Nordstrom (Arch Enemy, Dimmu Borgir, etc)

Jon Merchant (Barbra Streissand, BeeGees, etc)

They both have very natural but polished productions that are clean and transparent and pleasing to the ear.

I was always a big fan of Steve Albini's.  Raw, unprocesses, in-your-face sound. I love how his recordings feel unpolished without a fake layer of 'lacquer" on top.

    • I think everyone loves a little Albini. His approach to mixing is definitely unique. I wouldn't necessarily agree with polished tracks sounding fake though. I think it's up to personal mix preference at that point although I agree that mixing a little on the dull side is fine, especially in regards to mastering.
